Welcome to St. James’s Christian Education. We want the church to be a welcoming place for all children where they can learn of God’s love and grace and learn to be a part of a church family.

Children’s Christian Formation

Sunday School classes are offered for all children, ages two through fifth grade, during the Christian Education hour from 10:15 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

• Hands-On Sunday school (2, 3 and 4/5 year-olds): Our preschool children learn from this interactive curriculum which offers a different biblical theme or story every three to four weeks and explores it through storytelling, songs, games and crafts.
• Growing in Faith – Kindergarten through Fifth Grade: Sunday mornings will look quite different this year as we begin our new program using the Workshop Rotation model with our elementary age children. This year’s theme is “Believing God’s Promises” and children will experience scriptural stories and faith lessons through workshops in art, music, cooking, games, videos, storytelling and science. Children revisit the same story over a 3 week time period, learning in a different workshop each week. This program emphasizes active learning and helping children connect scriptural lessons to their own lives. A different, fun and meaningful activity every week

Nursery Care

• Childcare is available in Gibson Hall during both services, as well as the Christian Education hour on Sunday mornings.
• Infant/toddler nursery (9:00 and 11:15 services) Preschool nursery (9:00 service only)
• Christian Education Hour Nursery (10:15 am – 11:05 am)
• Nursery care is also available on Wednesday evenings for those who attend Christian Journey and Pilgrim’s Path. This nursery opens at 6:00 p.m.

This ministry is made possible through parent volunteers and caregivers who provide a comforting morning of play and fellowship for our youngest members.

Family Library at St. James’s

Open in the fall of 2011, the Family Library at St. James’s is on the second floor of Michaux House.  This library has a variety of books for children of all ages from specific Bible heroes to Christmas stories to faith-centered fiction.  There is something for everyone.  The library is open each Sunday morning, as well as on Wednesday evenings from 4:00 p.m. through church dinner.  In addition to books you can check out, the library also offers a “Celebrate a Child” program where you can purchase a designated book for our library in honor of a child’s baptism, birthday, confirmation or any other special event.  Name plates honoring the child will be placed in these books before the books are placed in the Family Library.  These special books  will be a great blessing to all our readers.  Many thanks to Laura Strickler and Marsha Carter for their amazing ministry in organizing this space for the children of St. James’s.  If you are interested in learning more about the library: either how to help or how to donate, please contact Kent Duffey.
