As a busy urban parish, it is essential that we take a break, as a community, and rest and refresh ourselves. This year we have three great opportunities to do so!

Shrine Mont Parish-wide Retreat Weekend
- October 21-23, 2011 in Orkney Springs, Virginia
The historic Shrine Mont Retreat Center offers a beautiful setting for St. James’s annual fall retreat in the mountains! Participants will have the opportunity to unplug, relax, and enjoy the gorgeous fall mountain scenery and each other’s company. There will be activities for adults and children, delicious meals, and comfortable accommodations. This is a special weekend for our parish and is designed to be fun for all ages and stages, young and older, singles and families. Cost for the weekend is: Adults and youth 13 and older $155 per person double occupancy; $175 single occupancy; 8-12 year olds $105; 4-7 year olds $55; 0-3 year olds $50 for babysitting costs. The cost includes lodging for two nights, Friday dinner through Sunday lunch and all programming. Space is limited so contact Anita Lisk ASAP to register!
Advent Retreat
- December 3, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Valentine Hall in the Michaux House
Darkness and light, longing and hope, emptiness and fulfillment are the themes of the season of preparation. This will be a day to step away from the business of getting ready for Christmas, a gift of quiet and refection as we prepare to hear again the message of the angels, the mystery of Christ among us. Led by The Rev. Caroline Parkinson.
A donation of $10 will cover lunch and refreshments. Registration deadline is November 28, 2011.

Society of St. John the Evangelist (SSJE) Contemplative Retreat
- March 1-4, 2012 in Cambridge, Massachusetts
This retreat is an extended weekend of quiet, companionship and renewal led by one of the brothers at the SSJE monastery, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The retreat costs $425 per person for meals and lodging. A non-refundable $100 deposit is due to reserve your spot, and the balance is due February 1, 2012. Retreat participants are responsible for their own arrangements for and cost of airfare and ground transportation to and from Logan airport to the monastery.

Trinity Center Beach Weekend
- June 28 – July 1, 2012 in Emerald Isle, North Carolina
The St. James’s Parish Beach Retreat at Trinity Center on Emerald Isle in North Carolina is offered every other year. Always a fun and reflective long weekend for singles, families, younger, older, newcomers, or long-time members – participants in this retreat have time for running in the waves, sitting on the beach, building sand castles, reading books, nature walks, intelligent conversations, cocktails on the deck, taking naps, getting to know fellow St. Jamesers, and opportunities to learn a little something about God.
