Serving at St. James’s

Feast volunteersFellowship

As “Doers of the Word,” we believe that every Christian is called not only to worship and study but also to serve each other. Therefore, to further Christ’s work of reconciliation in the world we seek to be a church where every member is engaged in servant ministry.

Episcopal Church Women

Episcopal Church Women (ECW) facilitate a way for the women of the church to build relationships and to have direct impact on the ministry of the church.  ECW is heavily involved in the WomanKind event that occurs every other year, and we raise money via the Taste of St. James’s, which allows us to support the church’s Food Force program.  Our focus is to help families and individuals in need in the city of Richmond.

Children’s Ministries Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways that parishioners can become involved in the Christian Formation of our youngest parishioners. If you are interested in helping in any of the following areas please contact Kent Duffey, 355-1779, ext. 314, unless otherwise noted.

Growing in Faith

  • Kindergarten through Fifth Grade

This Sunday morning ministry for children needs volunteers to serve in many different ways. This is a congregational-wide program – volunteers of all ages and all backgrounds are needed for this ministry.

  • Teacher volunteers lead a workshop for a three-week period based on the bible story and yearly theme. Workshops used this year are art, science, cooking, games, video, storytelling and music.
  • Shepherd volunteers work with one grade level of children throughout the year beginning in September. They commit to being present at least two Sundays a month and responsibilities include keeping attendance records, communication with parents and support of their students.
  • Materials, Prop and Room set-up volunteers help prepare lesson materials and classrooms for Sunday morning.

Hands On Sunday School

  • 2 year old through 4/5 year olds

Volunteers for this ministry work together in teams of four or five with our 2 year old, 3 year old and 4/5 year old children to teach Christian values and enduring Biblical lessons. These volunteers commit to being present at least two times a month.

Sunday School

Volunteers for this ministry guide the Christian formation of the children of St. James’s. Teachers and classroom volunteers work together to teach Christian values and enduring Biblical lessons.

Volunteers select, organize and help children and their families create crafts to usher in this season in the church.

Christmas Pageant

  • Sunday, December 19, 5:00 p.m.

All ages are needed to staff this large effort. Adult volunteers assist the Director and the Sunday school children in the pageant and our St. James’s youth volunteer as the cast of the story.

Vacation Bible School

  • July 9-13, 2012, 9:00 a.m. to noon

This summertime ministry is a complete volunteer effort.  VBS is open to 3 year olds (potty trained) to rising third graders. Volunteers help select curriculum, prepare for the week and spend time working with children during the camp. For more information contact Director of Children’s Ministries Kent Duffey.
