Food Force in Michaux kitchen

Fighting Hunger with the Food Force

The St. James’s Food Force and Men’s Cooking Team comprised of some 45 volunteers serve as outreach ministry providing healthy home cooked meals to our community’s homeless individuals and working poor families.  We partner this ministry with the Salvation Army that provides the community meal site and with many other agencies and congregations that provide food and volunteers.  Our four teams meet on designated days each month and cook a nourishing meal (like meatloaf and ‘hoppin John’! ) that is delivered to the SA to serve some 200 guests.

Those who are served appreciate and enjoy the meals.  Cooking team members experience the positive impacts of sharing the goal of feeding those less fortunate, of forming special bonds of “doer” friendships on each team and among the larger group of Food Force volunteers.  The church kitchen, used for preparing, cooking, and packaging each meal is a happy place filled with the clanging of pots and pans, the bustle of volunteers chopping, dicing, and tasting, and the chatter and laughter of ‘doer’ friends doing ministry!

If you would like more information or would like to serve on a team, please contact Nancy Warman, Director of Servant Ministry at [email protected] or (804) 355-1779, extension 333.
