We are a lively community of faith striving to serve
God as “Doers of the Word and not hearers only.”
We hope you will find at St. James's a church
where God is present, where God's love is active,
and where God's Spirit is always calling us to
follow Christ. There is much to be thankful for in this
life and there is so much to be done. Come and join
with us as we share in the life of faith and work together
to be the body of Christ.

WomanKind is hosted every two years by St. James’s and has become a nationally known women’s spirituality event. Women come from all over the country to attend this inspiring weekend of fellowship, lectures, workshops, music, and worship. This year marks our fourth WomanKind, and our theme is "Saving Graces."
Don't miss this opportunity to examine the issues we wrestle with every day--finances, relationships, and spirituality--in order to uncover the Graces we have locked up inside them, and in so doing, allow them to become the Saving Graces God intends them to be.

Volunteers are needed to help with this event. See the list of volunteer opportunities.
WomanKind will feature several well-known authors, and in preparation for their visit, we are organizing book groups to discuss their works. The book groups are open to all, male and female, members of the church and non-members. Please order your books through Fountain Books as a portion of the proceeds benefit WomanKind.

Wine Women and Wonder is a fun, energetic bible study with an emphasis on fellowship. We meet in the evening in eachother’s homes every other week. We are embarking on a study of scripture as story, not only the story of what God has done in the past, but what he is continuing to do in our lives. All women in their 20s and 30s are welcome to join us. Contact Whitney Zimmerman to sign up, 804-355-1779 *317

*The Vestry of St. James's
has adopted the following four core values for the parish:
1. To celebrate God through worship that moves the spirit.
2. To be a welcoming, joyful and accepting community
by encouraging humility, faith in God, and faith in each other.
3. To serve one another and those in need through ministry
that transforms lives for Jesus Christ.
4. To nurture and raise our children in the knowledge
and love of Jesus Christ.
MISSION
STATEMENT
The mission of St. James's Episcopal
Church is to be a welcoming urban parish, proclaiming
the Gospel of Jesus Christ as Doers of the Word and not
Hearers only; challenging one another through Word and
Sacrament to grow in the knowledge of the Lord; answering
God's call to love and serve others; standing as a beacon
of Christ's light in the World. |
