CARITAS INTAKE SITE MINISTRY
Our response to Christ’s call to serve is beautifully witnessed in our CARITAS ministry.
CARITAS Intake offers volunteers an opportunity to provide hospitality to homeless men and women who are overnight guests of CARITAS. This year, St. James’s will once again assist CARITAS by hosting nightly intake services for Richmond’s homeless. Our host period will commence on October 14, 2017 and run each evening through December 15, 2017. There will be no intake on October 24 or 25 (due to the Feast) or on Thanksgiving Day. CARITAS will use the Michaux House basement to provide centralized intake for its overnight guests before transporting them to their evening quarters. If you are interested in CARITAS or simply wish to extend a compassionate hand to a group of people who need one, this is an easy and fulfilling opportunity to do so. Middle and high school students can satisfy their community service obligations volunteering with this ministry, but please note that parents must accompany their children.
Two volunteers are needed each evening from 4:30-6:15 p.m. Volunteers will be responsible for admitting CARITAS staff and guests to Michaux House, remaining present during intake, and locking up once the bus arrives to take guests to their evening lodgings. CARITAS staff will handle all intake activities. The bus will generally depart by 6:00 p.m. and volunteers can plan to leave at 6:15 p.m.
