St. James’s is once again assisting CARITAS by hosting nightly intake services for homeless men. Our host period continues each evening through February 8, 2013. CARITAS is using the Michaux House basement to provide centralized intake for its overnight guests before transporting them to their evening accommodations at other congregations. Two to three volunteers are needed each evening from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. Volunteers are responsible for admitting CARITAS staff and guests to Michaux House, remaining present during intake, and locking up once the bus arrives to take guests to their evening lodgings elsewhere. CARITAS staff are on-site to handle all intake activities and volunteers are not required to do so. The bus will generally depart by 6:00 p.m. but volunteers should plan to stay until 6:15 p.m.
Please consider offering your help to this service project during the 2012 holiday season. Volunteers for January time slots are especially needed! A sign-up sheet is in the narthex on Sundays and in Michaux House during Wednesday evening dinners. You may also contact Steve McCoy directly at 822-4490 with questions or if you wish to volunteer.
