Yes, you have read it correctly. St. James’s will be hosting two weeks of shelter for CARITAS during the summer months – and we need your help! Due to some challenges with scheduling, CARITAS really needs our support in order to provide shelter for 35 men the weeks of July 26-August 1 and August 2-August 8.
While our planning and activities will be scaled back from our winter shelter program, much of the implementation will be the same. We need volunteers to contribute breakfast food, to prepare and serve the dinner meal, and to serve as the overnight church representative, from about 9:00 p.m.- 6:00 a.m. In the spirit of the book, Toxic Charity, the men will be working alongside our volunteers which will provide a healthy exchange among all.
Please mark your calendars and save the dates. Sign-up sheets are in the Narthex, but the best way to sign up to help is online at http://bit.ly/caritas-summer. Karen Stanley will serve as lay leader and can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. or 467-6306.
These weeks present a special opportunity for family ministry as well as individual ministry. Plan to join our team of “doers” and come help uplift the lives of those whom we serve. Come with helping hands, listening ears and compassionate hearts. Come be present!
