Celebrate Haiti on St. Francis Sunday

Join us October 6 for St. Francis Sunday, in celebration of St. Francis of Assisi who loved animals and worked with the poor.

Celebrate the saint whose spiritual journey included preaching and a life of consistent imitation of Christ. Francis of Assisi embraced the impoverished, stripped himself of all worldly encumbrances and invited his followers to do the same. St. Francis also believed that all nature reflected the divine, and called all creatures his brothers and sisters.

Our celebration begins with our annual Blessing of the Animals and Morning Prayer at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Haitian Street Festival at 9:45 a.m. in the Memorial Garden. Come meet our Haitian friends from the St. Joseph Family and learn more about St. James’s mission work in Haiti! Operating for almost 35 years, the SJF ministries serve some of the most disadvantaged groups in Haiti, including former street boys, children and adults with physical and mental challenges, and the poorest of the poor. Our friends will be drumming and singing as well as exhibiting and selling their Haitian artwork and jewelry. Refreshments for humans and dogs will be served, including a cake in celebration of St. Francis. Following the festival, we will celebrate the Holy Eucharist at 11:15 a.m., which will include musical performances by our Haitian guests.
