Collegiate Cycling Race Affects Services and Parking May 4

The USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships will be using Franklin Street, Monument Avenue and Lombardy Street as part of the race course for three days from May 2-4. On Sunday morning, May 4, St. James’s will consolidate morning services into one service of Holy Eucharist, Rite II at 10:00 a.m. There will be no Christian education classes that morning but the 10:00 a.m. service will feature special music sung by the Youth Choir and recognition of those choristers. The Jazz Mass at 5:00 p.m. will be held in Valentine Hall, as usual. The CapTech USA Cycling Collegiate Road Nationals take place that morning and, as a result, Monument Avenue east of the Boulevard and W. Franklin Street will be closed. We hope our parishioners will embrace May 4 as a “come as you are” Sunday and a great opportunity to cycle or walk to church and linger afterwards to cheer on the collegiate cyclists. Crowds of observers are expected along the route. There will be access to the Franklin Street parking deck by car through the alley off Lombardy, complete directions are below.
