May 26 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm UTC-4
We will celebrate our biannual Memorial Concert honoring military veterans at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, during Memorial Day weekend with Requiem by Johannes Brahms.
The concert is given in remembrance of those who have died in military service and in thanksgiving for those among us who have served or are serving in our nation’s armed forces. A rose will be presented to each veteran present. Flags will be presented as we sing “America the Beautiful.” We will also sing “Eternal Father, strong to save” and “God of our Fathers” accompanied by trumpet, organ and timpani. An offering will be taken to benefit non-profits that serve veterans. A gala reception will follow in the Church’s Valentine Hall.
All veterans and military service men and women in the central Virginia area are invited and encouraged to attend this free concert program.
St. James’s Episcopal Church is located at 1205 West Franklin Street near Virginia Commonwealth University. The Memorial Day concert has become a tradition at St. James’s as one of many outreach events and public services it provides to the wider Richmond community.
The printed program will list names of veterans, including those who are presently serving, those who have served in the past, and those who have died. If you are a veteran or serving now, or if you know of someone who is, please contact Mark Whitmire at St. James’s Church, 355-1779, ext. 323, to register the name and years of service for the Honorees Roster. Below are some photos from the last Memorial Concert.
