Fall 2022 Adult Formation

Sunday Morning Adult Formation Fall 2022

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of daily life we offer you several ways to take a break and spend time learning and growing in your faith on Sunday mornings.

Adult Forum: The Power of Community

Join us in Valentine Hall on Sunday mornings from 10:15-11 for our Adult Forum Series “The Power of Community.” Over the last few years the way we think about community has changed dramatically and as we return to St. James’s this Fall our Adult Forum series will focus on sharing stories of what community means based on the experiences of each of our featured guests. Please plan to join us in Valentine Hall on Sunday mornings to hear these powerful stories of community, connection, and reconnection. For more information about the Adult Forum please contact the Rev. Amelia Arthur, aarthur@doers.org.

Sundays- Sept 25, October 9, 16, 30, November 13, 20, and December 4, 11.

Book Study: The Will of God

The Rev. Doug Wigner will lead a three week study on The Will of God: Everyone seems to know God’s Will, but do they? Do you? Three sessions on the Christian Classic The Will of God by Leslie Weatherhead, pastor of City Temple in London during WWII. Some of the examples are dated of course, but we’ll move them forward and seek to discern God’s Will and learn how to determine it personally and in community. No purchase necessary but you’re welcome to buy the book if you wish. 10:15-11:00 am in the Michaux House Library (1st floor).

Sundays – Sep 25, Oct 2, 9.

Spirituality: The Gifts of Spiritual Practice

Please join us for three Sundays in October as we explore and discuss together in a small group setting the gifts of spiritual practice. We will look at a variety of practices that have been handed down through the centuries. These will include silence and meditation, praying the psalms, and a commitment to gratitude. No books are required but you may wish to bring a journal or notebook. For more information, please contact Nancy Hein at nancyjoyhein@gmail.com. 10:15-11:00am in Michaux House 201 (2nd Floor).

Sundays- Oct 9, 16, 30.

Adult Fellowship: Connect & Reconnect

Join other adults for fellowship, connection, and reconnection on Sunday mornings from 10-11am in the Parlors of Michaux House (1st floor). We invite you to grab a cup of coffee and find a comfy place to sit in one of the two parlors while you connect with other parishioners between the services.

Sundays from 10 to 11 am.

Advent Bible Study: Advent Gospels, Preparation and Incarnation

The Rev. Doug Wigner will lead a bible study looking at The Two Themes of Advent – Preparing for the celebration of Jesus’ birth, the Incarnation and the return of the Christ. Using the propers for Advent Sundays a few weeks ahead this study will be a chance to dive deep into the gospel stories we will hear during the Advent Season. You will have the inside track on which way the preacher may go, or not! Bring your Bibles and enthusiasm for the question of – Why is this important in my life? 10:15-11:00 am in the Michaux House Library (1st floor).

Sundays – November 13, 20, December 4, 11.
