We will celebrate our biannual Memorial Concert honoring military veterans at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, during Memorial Day weekend.
The concert, given in remembrance of those who have died in military service and in thanksgiving for those among us who have served or are serving in our nation’s armed forces, will include Bach’s Cantata 106, and Faure’s Requiem, one of the most transcendent and sublime pieces of music ever written, performed by the St. James’s Festival Chorus and Orchestra. An offering will be taken to benefit non-profits that serve veterans. A gala reception will follow in the church’s Valentine Hall.
All veterans and military service men and women in the central Virginia area are invited and encouraged to attend this free concert program.
St. James’s Episcopal Church is located at 1205 West Franklin Street near Virginia Commonwealth University. The Memorial Day concert has become a tradition at St. James’s as one of many outreach events and public services it provides to the wider Richmond community.
The printed program will list names of veterans, including those who are presently serving, those who have served in the past, and those who have died. If you are a veteran or serving now, or if you know of someone who is, please contact Mark Whitmire at St. James’s Church, 355-1779, ext. 323, to register the name and years of service for the Honorees Roster. Below are some photos from the last Memorial Concert.
