Dear Parish Family,
Like most Episcopalians, I am not fond of change. I still think of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer as “the New Prayer Book.” There is little doubt that these past few months have brought more changes to our life as a church community than at any time since the fire twenty-five years ago.
At the same time, I am continually reminded of this community’s strength and resilience in the faith of adversity, and I give thanks for all that you have done and continue to do for our beloved church community. One steadfast representative of our community of faith has been The Reverend Thom Blair.
I write now to let you know that Thom has decided to retire from leading his Sunday Bible study program and weekly studies. I accepted his decision with much regret since Thom has been such an integral part of our Christian Formation program for adults. He is truly a gifted teacher of God’s word, and we have all benefited from his knowledge and passion for Holy Scripture.
Of course, Thom has not just been our teacher, but he led our church during the interim period as St. James’s searched for a new rector. Before those years, he faithfully served as the rector of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
I have been grateful to Thom for his guidance since my arrival at St. James’s, and I know that all of us will want to reach out to him in the days and weeks ahead to thank him for all that he has done on behalf of St. James’s and our church’s ministry.
Well done good and faithful servant.
With every good blessing, I am
Yours in Christ,
The Reverend Dr. John F. McCard
