Be Ye Doers of the Word and Not Hearers Only Start Doing

Sign up for Servant Sunday coming September 30

Rise Against Hunger logo

On Sunday, September 30, we will hold our third Servant Sunday. This will be a wonderful way to celebrate St. James’s core identity as a parish of Doers of the Word. The day will include worship in our sanctuary, multiple outreach project opportunities featuring Rise Against Hunger food packing, and will conclude with our annual parish picnic at Rock Bottom. Take a look at the many options for serving in our community listed below, and sign up for something today.

Schedule for Servant Sunday:

  • 9:15 a.m. Registration opens
  • 10:00 a.m. Worship begins (St. James’s Sanctuary)
  • 10:45 a.m. Service projects begin (Various locations both onsite and offsite)
  • 12:30 p.m. Parish Picnic begins—note the earlier time! As soon as you finish your service project, hop in the car and head over to Rock Bottom for some barbecue, beverages, tunes by Oak Lane, and plenty of fun activities for all ages.

More volunteers are needed! In addition to signing up for a service project, we’ll need some folks to help with set up, clean up, etc. Sign up as an event support volunteer.

Important Things to Note:

Sign Up Soon! We encourage you to sign up (see the form below) for your Servant Sunday ministry online in advance if possible. Space is limited for most of our outreach projects, so the sooner you sign up, the more choice you’ll have. Some opportunities to serve will fill up quickly, so don’t wait until the last minute. There will be some projects you can sign up for on the day of Servant Sunday, but there will be much more selection if you sign up now. Especially important: you must sign up in advance for the Rise Against Hunger food packing ministry. Use this link.

Arrive early! Worship in our sanctuary begins at 10:00 a.m., but don’t forget to leave yourself plenty of time to park and check in. We want to start on time so we have plenty of time to complete our service projects and get to the picnic.

Come to church casual! We encourage you to wear sneakers, shorts, t-shirts, etc. Bring a baseball cap if you are doing Rise Against Hunger. You’ll be going straight from worship to your service project to the parish picnic, so wear your picnic clothes to church!

Kids too! Servant Sunday is for all ages. Nursery Care will be available for children under age 4. Many of our service opportunities are kid-friendly if you are 4 years or older so take a look below to see which option might be great for your family to do together.

Don’t see a servant ministry here that suits you? You are also welcome to come up with your own way to serve your community on Servant Sunday. The important thing is to be a Doer of the Word in some way.
