Be Ye Doers of the Word and Not Hearers Only Start Doing

Sunday School Curriculum

Welcome to St. James’s Christian Education. We want the church to be a welcoming place for all children where they can learn of God’s love and grace and learn to be a part of a church family.

If you need additional information on any of our children’s programs, please contact Becky Page, Director of Children’s Ministries, at 355-1779, ext. 314. Sign your children and yourself up for these classes on this form. There is a full schedule of activities for the year here.

Children’s Christian Education

  • Sunday Story time
    Two year olds –
This story-based program will introduce values and character lessons through children’s literature, simple crafts, and Bible verse. Sunday Storytime will take place in the nursery during the Christian Study hour.
  • Godly Play
Three and four old classes, combined Pre-K, Kindergarten and First grade
The Godly Play curriculum is based on storytelling and wondering. Children develop the language of their faith while exploring lessons from the Bible and our faith tradition in the sacred space of the Godly Play classroom. Children creatively respond to their hearing of the story and then participate in a communal feast.
  • Growing in FaithRotational Model
    Second grade through Fifth grade
The Growing in Faith Workshop Rotation Model offers our elementary children a way to experience scriptural stories and faith lessons through a variety of learning styles. Workshops include art, cooking, games, Legos, music, science, storytelling, and video. Each lesson is presented over a period of three to four weeks in varied modalities and emphasizes active learning to help children connect the spiritual lessons to their own lives.
  • Worship Services
Children are welcome at all services. A clergy-led homily, designed and most meaningful for children pre-K through third grade, is offered in the Children’s Chapel during 9:00 a.m. worship. All children may observe the celebration of the Eucharist on the chancel rug or at the altar rail and baptized children may receive communion. Children are also invited to sit on the chancel rug during baptisms to view of the sacrament closely.
  • Nursery Care
Childcare is offered for infants, toddlers, and pre-school children on Sunday mornings from 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. during the program year and 9:30-11:30 a.m. during the summer. Experienced and trained caregivers work alongside parent volunteers to provide a safe environment of play and fellowship for our youngest parishioners.
