Stuart Circle Parish Council Service Opportunities

JOINING WITH OUR NEIGHBORS to SUPPORT OUR NEIGHBORS.

Stuart Circle Parish Council is representative of St. James’s and those other parishes that sponsor the annual beloved Palm Sunday parade. Throughout our history we have supported one another and enjoyed opportunities to partner in ministry. Please see below ecumenical ministries that you can support and become part of helping those in need, particularly homeless individuals, low-income families, and VCU students in need of food. If you have questions, please contact Nancy Warman (nwarman@doers.org).

First English Lutheran Church Outdoor Food Pantry

The FELC Outdoor Food Pantry has non-perishable food available 24/7 for those in need. The pantry is located behind the church along the alley (off Lombardy Street), and FELC members and One Monument neighbors contribute to it regularly. Anyone is welcome to individually place non-perishable items in the pantry at any time. And, anyone is welcome to receive food from the pantry at any time.

Non-perishable food donation guidelines: Pull tab cans are preferred for the pantry because they don’t involve can openers. Glass containers are not allowed. Individual plasticware packages can also be donated to the bin (no loose utensils, please). One suggested ‚Äúgood habit‚Äù is once a month when grocery shopping to buy some items for the bin and drop them off at church the next Sunday. Popular items include canned soups and chilis, fruit cups and canned fruit, Ensure or other protein drinks, and shelf-stable milk boxes. Those preferring to donate food online (such as from Amazon) can have the food shipped to First English Lutheran Church (1603 Monument Avenue, Richmond, VA, 23220). Please email parish administrator, Dabney Varljen (office@felcrichmond.org) so she is aware the shipment is in transit. Financial contributions can be made to First English for the purchase of non-perishable food with the note ‚ÄúChurch Food Supply.‚Äù

Pace Center VCU Campus Food Ministry

Food/Kitchen Opportunities

The Pace Center is committed to being a place where students can Gather, Eat, and Share. Your donation of a meal, a pot of soup, baked goods, or fruit will ensure that students can always enjoy a free, nourishing, homemade meal whenever they visit the Pace Center. Visit www.thepacecenter.com to learn how you can contribute food items.

There is a hunger issue on VCU’s campus: nearly 40% of VCU students experience food insecurity at some point during their college career.

The Pace Center – a Christian Campus Ministry at VCU – helps to combat this statistic by hosting communal meals, allowing free use of our kitchen by students, and providing snacks to any student who comes through our doors. Due to heavy use, Pace’s cookware, kitchen tools, and appliances are wearing out. Help us restock our kitchen with used or new items! Visit www.thepacecenter.com/kitchen-drive to learn more.
