Food Force meal ministry brings church friends together in the kitchen for lots of chatter and for outstanding outreach to community folks in need of nutritious food.  Volunteers prepare home-cooked meals and deliver them to community homeless and low-income people who receive meals at the Salvation Army and other community meal sites. There are four teams that meet monthly – two on Tuesday mornings, one on Friday morning, and one on Saturday morning (men’s cooking team).

If you would like more information or would like to serve on a team, please contact Nancy Warman, Director of Servant Ministry at [email protected] or (804) 355-1779, extension 333.

Men’s Cooking Team

Men only!  These men love to cook together in the St. James’s kitchen on the third Saturday of each month.  As part of Food Force ministry, they prepare and deliver home-cooked meals to community agencies that provide meals for homeless and low-income children and families. In addition, this team is recognized for its best ever New Orleans cuisine served at Mardi Gras for Missions as well as providing meals for other special events!

Annual collections of non-perishable food items for the FoodBank take place each year during the Thanksgiving Day and the spring Jazz Eucharist worship services.

Taste of St. James’s

The Taste of St. James’s debuted in 2011 as the Holiday Gourmet Food Sale. This fall, we will narrow the focus to everybody’s favorite freezer find: SOUP! This event funds St. James’s Food Force, our outreach ministry to homeless residents in Richmond. Volunteers are needed to prepare soups and baked goods, as well as to staff the event. Also, plenty of shoppers are needed to come and buy all the delicious soups and treats for sale!

Volunteers provide food and special welcome to newcomers that come to meet one another and clergy and staff of the church. Gatherings with morning coffee and sweets are provided between services on several Sunday mornings throughout the year, and, once or twice a year, all newcomers are entertained in the home of a church member.
