Dear 9th-graders Families,
St. James’s is committed to offering a meaningful Confirmation preparation process for our youth seeking confirmation in the Episcopal Church. In years past, this has typically been a yearlong process for 9th graders beginning in September and concluding with the Bishop’s visit in May.
This is not a typical year, so our confirmation leaders, staff, and clergy are working thoughtfully to prepare a confirmation process that is still meaningful and yet adapts to current circumstances. We’re grateful for our incredible leadership team for their hard work and dedication to this process. Hilary Streever and I are joined by Fontaine Williamson, Cheryl Redmond, Trey Sibley, and Robin Price. St. James’s has even hired a consulting group, Ministry Architects, to help us redesign this process. We are committed to you and your faith journey.
We’re leaning toward an online offering that youth and parents attend together following more of a family ministry model. Adults seeking confirmation will be part of this same online offering too. When safe and permissible, we’d switch to in-person gatherings. Instead of weekly classes, we’re picturing a handful of sessions spread throughout the year that take a deeper dive into essential aspects of our faith tradition, while equipping you with tools to further explore faith at home as a family.
Our confirmation leaders have multiple planning sessions scheduled this summer to design this new format and we’ll be back in touch by the end of August with a clear picture of what this looks like. In the meantime, we hold you in our prayers and invite you to join us virtually for church on Sundays at 10:00 AM at www.doers.org. We also encourage you to join the “St. James’s Youth Ministry” Facebook group so you can keep in touch while we are apart.
Love ya, Mean it,
